How Long Does a Mobile Windshield Replacement Take?

When your windshield needs replacing, the last thing you want is to spend a whole day at a shop. That is exactly why mobile windshield replacement exists: we come to you. But how long does the actual process take?

The Short Answer

A typical mobile windshield replacement takes 45 to 60 minutes for the hands-on work. After that, the adhesive needs 1 to 2 hours of curing time before the vehicle is safe to drive. So from start to "ready to go," you are looking at roughly 2 to 3 hours total.

Step-by-Step Timeline

  1. Setup and inspection (5–10 minutes): Our technician arrives at your location, sets up the work area, and inspects the damage and the new glass to make sure everything is correct for your vehicle.
  2. Removing the old windshield (10–15 minutes): The old glass is carefully cut out using specialized tools. Any old adhesive is cleaned from the frame, and the pinch weld is prepared for a proper bond.
  3. Priming and applying adhesive (5–10 minutes): A urethane primer is applied to both the frame and the new glass. Then a bead of high-strength urethane adhesive is laid around the perimeter.
  4. Installing the new windshield (10–15 minutes): The new glass is set into position and pressed firmly into the adhesive. Moldings and trim are reinstalled.
  5. ADAS recalibration (30–60 minutes if needed): If your vehicle has a front camera system, static calibration is performed on-site using portable calibration equipment.
  6. Curing time (1–2 hours): The adhesive needs time to set. During this period the vehicle should not be driven. You are free to go about your day: at home, at work, wherever our technician met you.

What Affects the Timeline?

Several factors can make the process faster or slower:

  • Weather: Cold temperatures slow adhesive curing. In Ontario winters, we use cold-weather adhesives designed to cure at lower temperatures, but it can still add time.
  • Vehicle type: Some vehicles have more complex windshield designs, additional trim pieces, or integrated rain sensors that add installation time.
  • ADAS calibration: Not every vehicle needs it, but for those that do, it adds 30 to 60 minutes. We always let you know in advance.
  • Rust or previous poor installation: If the frame shows rust damage or the previous windshield was not installed properly, extra prep work may be needed.

Why Mobile Service Makes Sense

With mobile replacement, you skip the trip to the shop, the waiting room, and the ride home. Our technician comes to your home, office, or any location that is convenient for you. While the curing time ticks away, you can work, relax, or handle your day. No schedule disruption.

Mobile service is also the same quality as an in-shop replacement. We use the same adhesives, the same OEM or OEM-equivalent glass, and the same calibration equipment. The only difference is where the work happens.

When Can I Drive After Replacement?

Our technician will tell you the exact safe drive-away time based on the adhesive used and current conditions. As a general rule:

  • Minimum 1 hour in warm weather with fast-cure adhesive
  • 2+ hours in cold weather or with standard adhesive
  • Do not slam doors, use a car wash, or drive on rough roads for the first 24 hours
